Protecting Posidonia

Posidonia Oceanica, commonly known as seagrass, is a plant (not a seaweed), adapted to underwater life in the sea. It is a key element in preserving the Mediterranean Sea’s ecosystem, and regulating CO2 absorption in the sea and atmosphere.

Posidonia absorbs CO2 and outputs oxygen at twice the daily rate of tropical forests.

It also protects the coastline from erosion, clarifying the water by catching suspended particles, and provides a home for a myriad of marine species especially larvae and young fish.

There are many threats to the Posidonia – many are AVOIDABLE!
The most obvious destruction comes from unregulated pleasure boat anchoring. Think before you drop anchor and help save our seas.
